Collections

MISSA maintains a broad vascular plant collection with particular strength in Mississippi and the southeastern United States.

Regional flora

The core strength of MISSA is its documentation of the flora of Mississippi and the southeastern United States.

Wetland & aquatic plants

Current collecting by Mississippi State faculty and students is strengthening representation of aquatic and wetland plants for research, teaching, and professional identification.

Historical holdings

The collection includes noteworthy historical material representing more than a century of botanical exploration and research.

Digitized records

Digitization is ongoing. MISSA continues to image specimens, transcribe and improve label data, and georeference records. Digitized records can support floristic, ecological, conservation, and historical research without requiring physical handling of specimens.
